Esme Cooper
"Working from a studio in the garden of her home in Mid Devon, this textile designer creates distinctive surface patterns that are screen printed by hand onto natural fabrics. Her designs are transformed into a collection of furnishings, lampshades, lamps and household textiles, combining thoughtful design with traditional making techniques. The natural world is a constant source of inspiration. Shapes, colours and textures found in everyday forms, from the details of a leaf to the rhythms of the landscape, provide starting points for her designs. Living in the West Country offers an ever-changing source of inspiration, with its varied countryside, coastlines and distinctive sense of place. Observations from the natural world often act simply as a catalyst. From there, the creative process becomes more intuitive, allowing the pen to lead the way as initial ideas develop into finished patterns. Alongside her own collections, she also creates bespoke textiles for interior commissions, including roller blinds, curtains and wall hangings, bringing her distinctive approach to pattern and colour into individual spaces."
