Small Blue Winter Garden II

This square botanical relief tile, titled “Winter Garden II” by Lake District artist Elaine Brett Rowlands, showcases a delicate composition of pressed plants emerging from a deep slate-blue background. Handcrafted using a meticulous process, the artist presses actual flowers, stems, and seed heads directly into soft clay before casting them in plaster and finishing the relief with rolled acrylic paint. The resulting raised white silhouettes depict fine, skeletal textures of winter flora—including prominent umbellifer seed heads and slender blades of grass—set against a textured indigo sky complete with a stylised, hand-etched winter sun. Presented in a clean white square frame with a generous mount, this limited-edition cast captures the quiet, frozen essence of a sleeping countryside garden.
